I've been kicking around the idea of a Miami Vice themed subugn match for quite a while now for us Florida folks and I've got some good feedback from some of the shooters at our local matches.

So.. with that being said... on impulse the other day I purchased the 27 DVD box set of Miami Vice complete with an faux white alligator leather box. (Regularly $179 somehow I found iton sale for $40) I'd like to see this match happen sometime from December 2010 - r Feb of 2011 if at all possible when the weather is nice.

This thread will act as my chalk board as I put together ideas for stages , props and scenarios for the event as I watch the entire 27 DVD (plus bonus features!!) I'll keep updating the thread as I make progress.

Any ideas, suggestion and critique is welcome.

As always if any of you out of state folks feel the urge to come on down to the sunshine state with your pastel colored suit and sockless docker shoes we'd love have you at one of our events :)

Resources

Themes:
Hookers, drugs, guns, smuggling, cars, boats and the everglades (so much for the G family rating)

Props:
Inflatable alligator (Elvis)
Cut out of one of the sports cars.
Guitar case (for glades scenario)
Elevator - shooter starts a stage inside an elevator and the doors slide open to present an array of targets.
All paper targets are clothed
Wooden lobster pots
Trailer home mock up (for free fall) that allows shooting through windows.

Stage Ideas:

Glades - episode 9 - Shoot out inside and outside house. Searching room to room to find kidnapped little girl, facing numerous bad guys along the way.

Freefall (final episode 2 hours)
This one episode seems to have more awesome gun play than the rest of the shows combined. The dynamic duo have to protect a Latin American dictator from hit squad and everything under the sun.

SCENE 1
1hr into the episode Stan has shotgun vs 3 thugs with smg's He's behind the open door of his van.

Scene 2
1h11m into episode: Tubbs is taken hostage in a trailer by the river. Bad guys try to swap Tubbs for General Barbone. Crockett is outside building with scoped rifle and kills tubbs hostage taker at door of trailer at the beginning of the proposed trade. HUGE firefight ensues with Miami's finest blazing away at a half dozen bad guys inside the trailer.

Crockett advances toward trailer under heavy fire and magically is protected by the wooden lobster pots everywhere and grabs Tubbs and drags him to safety. The bad guys in the building are shot and the building collapses.

SCENE 3
Barbone is trying to escape via a seaplane. Crockett and Tubbs show up in the white fererri and have a shoot out with Barbone's men. Initially C&T take cover behind a vehicle then decide to SPRINT toward the bad guys with guns in each hand neutralizing 8+ guys while running after the plane and barbone (which is in the water and taking off)

They manage to blow up the plane while in flight with a mp5 and Beretta 92.

The Maze: Episode 17 -
Quote:
Gangsters take over a high-rise for drug dealing.. tons of mac's , MP5's and shotguns

Tubbs carries guitar case to "the maze" building with firearm inside to infiltrate gang members "the Escobars" den who shot police officer. The building is dilapidated and filled with both gang members as well as innocent people living in building. Gang members open fire from top floor window on police as they begin to move in.

The gang members hold the innocent families hostage in a room with guns to their heads and the uniform police withdraw.. Tubbs under cover moves in and becomes a hostage with a concealed pistol.

Writing on the walls "666 is coming" and other graffiti ...

Tubbs gets tied up by the gang and ends up shooting a bad guy from a laying position on his side from a 38 on his ankle. . Bad guys make for the roof with hostages Crockett blasts a guy through the top floor window.

There is a ton of action in this scenario with a shoot out being the obvious choice. A good mix of shoots, no shoots all with shirts/ hats on with the gang members having various weapons. This stage would be outstanding if a way can be devised to do a group of targets that move horizontally (slider or otherwise) that has a mix of hostages and bad guys... mixed with other no shoots/hostage targets standing static across the path of travel it would make things challenging.

Night club scene- quite a few to choose from.. shoot out in the club... lots of no shoots couple of shoots.. maybe something that shoots back :)

I'm about 15 episodes in so far and this isn't going to be as easy as I thought. A heck of a lot of episodes don't have the high action shoot outs you'd expect. Tons of hookers and drugs though... gun play is sure to follow right? :p

On the suggestion of Amphibian I watched the episode "El Viejo" (season 3 disc 2) that stars Kenny Rogers as a Texas Ranger out for revenge. The final scene a the end is pretty awesome and set in a grave yard. Kenny rogers and Crockett battle it out with drug dealers while hiding behind tombstones.

I posted over on miami-vice.org and got some good feedback on episodes to watch.

Knock Knock Who's there Season 5 episode 21
Briefcase + 2 kilos of cocaine in bar setting. Rogue DEA agents rip off the drugs...
Final shoot out in the episode has a Crockett and Tubbs meeting the bad guys at calle Ocho. A zillion civilians are dancing their asses off and the bad guy Montoya shows up with his henchmen... shoot out happens and C&T shoot a couple of the bodyguards/henchmen. Montoya grabs a hostage and retreats with crockett in hot pursuit.

A shootout takes place in a hallway corridor... in the episode the bad guy is taken into custody.. for the match it might be nicer to have montoya run off with the briefcase of buy money and a hostage and then have the stage end with a subgun precision hostage shot at 20+yrds or a pistol shot @ 10yrds.

Sounds like a great idea, be interested to watch how it evolves. Especially if someone has a Bren ten, that would be great!

Not sure if I could crawl up a call and hold myself on the ceiling like Castillo did though!!

You could probably work some Serbu's in as well, yeah, sounds like a good time

I never watched much miami vice, so I probably won't be much help.

But if you ever want to do a Robocop, SG1, Ghost in the shell, or John woo movie styled shoot...I'm your man.

Todd,

I just finished an episode of "the wire" that had a shootout scenario that may also be similar to something in miami vice. (BTW "The Wire" is a GREAT series....basically cops versus drug dealers, and very realistic and interesting to watch....but usually not much in the way of shootouts).

The episode basically had to do with omars gang breaking into a barksdale stash house to steal the drugs. The break in goes fine with no shots fired, but "security" is alerted on their way out and the thieves have to shoot there way out to the getaway car.

This scenario could be done in a match fairly easily. Here is how I see it.
you start from the back of the field, you run thru some sort of path to get to "the stash" (maybe a backpack with a few "kilos" of bricks in it, or just a plastic trash bag you have to keep in your off hand, which will affect your shooting). you grab the stash and you are discovered by "security" and now you have to shoot your way out. going from one shoot box to another while hitting targets at each spot....all while wearing or carrying the stash.

Maybe the last few targets will have to be hit with your pistol, to simulate running out of ammo for your subgun on your way out of the stash house.

I know it's not from miami vice, but there might be something related.

Toby

PS
I just realized that moving towards the spectators with the subgun probably won't work from a safety aspect...so maybe just flip everything around....start near the burm (without the subgun)...run towards the gun and stash on a table near the usual start area, and work your way towards the burm for the getaway.

Thanks Toby!

I used to love the wire.. good show! The scenario is definitely a possibility. I've already got some plans for carrying around a briefcase full of drugs in one of the stages ( 4.4 lbs of flour in zip locks) I'm trying to stick to the Miami Vice scenes though and when I'm out of those I'll move on to other things.

Keep em coming!

FYI

I just noticed seasons 1 through 5 of miami vice is available to view instantly on netflix (free, if you have an account). Maybe that's why you could find the disks so cheap.

I've added a lot of my updates to the original post here. It's time to start doing some stage layout and collecting props.

Does anybody happen to have a 10 spare wooden lobster pots laying around?

:)
